"I have enjoyed writing all of my life, from
the time I began writing imaginative essays and terrible poetry in
elementary school, through composing feature articles for the high
school paper and serving as editor-in-chief of my college newspaper.
Even then, I preferred features and novelty articles to traditional
news, and my favorite issue was always the "April Fool's" edition, in
which we made up all of the articles, the more absurd the better.
Writing a novel requires more than an idea and
a desire to write. It takes time and a driving need to create. When I
get into a book, it pulls me along and I follow. Sometimes, I
don’t
know where the story is going until it gets there. That may seem odd,
but as I write, I see the characters in my head, then describe what
they do, how they look, and how they feel as I record the words they
say. It's almost like watching a movie for the first time, when you
don't know what the ending will be. That's the most exciting thing
about writing -- the creative process. Once the exhilaration of the
completion of a project passes, then the more mundane part of writing
begins: the marketing and selling. I plan to continue to write for many
years and hope that you, the readers, will join me on this journey."
